    • According to people who have been on this journey, there are really a lot of hoops to jump over before there is acceleration, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
I think El needs to write his letters too!

  1. As a teacher, I always told my parents, “It never hurts to ask questions.” That is the best way to advocate for your child. It puts the school on notice that you are watching them in the best way possible – for your child’s best interests.

  2. Hi, may I know where do you send El for the IQ test? I think my child is gifted and would like to get him tested. Thanks

    • I suspected when he was around two, as the mummy group I was in shared their children’s milestones and my son seemed to be more similar to another girl who is right ahead in milestones. He was ahead in some developmental milestones, but behind in others, so I did not think that much. However, when he started reading aloud at two plus, I started reading up more.

Nice read indeed! Thanks for sharing about this experience. I will probably get some aptitude test done for my boy.

  4. Would you have accelerated El to a higher grade if given the chance? Sometimes even if intellectually gifted children and placed with others of a different age group, they find it difficult to fit in because they are not at the same emotional level, although they are intellectually compatible.

    • It really depends. Some older kids are just mean. Some younger kids are just very sociable. In other countries, acceleration has benefits.

  5. Interesting post. It is good that you are able to recognise that your son is gifted at a young age. I have heard of some cases where the teachers or parents thought that a child is having behavioral problems because he is feeling bored in class.

  6. The one thing that struck me was how cool you are about it and not stress too much about the results. It’s great to know if our kids are gifted but gifted or not should never change the fundamentals of how we raise them. Your approach is definitely something more parents should adopt.
